TURA: A review meeting under the Deputy Commissioner’s Systematic Reviews and Field Inspection with regard to the Education Department was held on Friday evening at the DRDA Conference Hall in Tura.
Rama Krishna Chitturi, SDO (C) Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, officials of Education Department and heads of various schools and educational institutions attended the meeting which was chaired by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh initiated the discussion on the progress and implementation of the Project Star programme entitled ‘School Transformation by Augmenting Resources’ and emphasised on the need to motivate the students, provide preliminary career guidance and counselling so that they can choose their careers according to their interests.
He also said that most students study aimlessly and must be given proper guidance.
With regard to the dismal percentage in the recently conducted board examinations, Ram Singh suggested that remedial classes or crash courses should be provided to the students.
He also directed the officials of the Education Department to monitor the schools of their respective areas on a regular basis and especially at the elementary level.
While sharing his views, Tyrone D’brass, principal of Sherwood School, informed that his school is utilising ‘Next Education’ or an easy to understand learning module based on modern technology from Hyderabad and also works in coordination with teachers and parents for better management of the students.
Meanwhile, Jesse Marak, principal of Durama College, informed that since scholarships have to be applied online and as most students are unaware of the procedure, they end up spending a lot of money going to cyber cafes.
He said that the college has made arrangements and will help with the online applications.
However, he added that the affidavit which is needed with the application form is creating a big problem for the students.
