SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) and Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) opposed the allocation of only one post in the ST category for the post of Scale –I officer in the Meghalaya Rural Bank (MRB).
The two organisations maintained that preference should be given to Scheduled tribes of Meghalaya (Khasi, Jaintia and Garo).
Lodging a complaint letter to the Chairman of MRB, they demanded the bank to relinquish and make a new assessment to change the number of vacancies by giving first priority to the STs of Meghalaya.
According to them, the post should be re-advertised allotting the vacancies before deadline which will benefit the tribal people. They pointed out that the job criteria for the Scale-I officer is proficiency in local language, apart from his or her educational qualification.
