Agartala: The opposition Congress has demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the alleged atrocities committed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kishore Jha at his official residence against a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan in January.

Mr Jha reportedly tied the jawan’s hands and beat him up for being late in bringing a guest at his house. The jawan reportedly ran an independent escort service in Agartala.

Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjoy Sinha had conducted two rounds of enquiry into the allegation and submitted the report to the state government but the government has not made the report public yet.

The government has posted him to Tripura Bhawan New Delhi.

“The DGP had made a futile bid to rescue Mr Jha and as a result, the entire investigation appeared to be a farce and it requires to be investigated by a sitting High Court judge where the DGP himself will be included,”Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath demanded. Earlier, police had booked the jawan, Jahangir Hussein, as trespasser following complaints of ADG’s house guard. (UNI)
