SHILLONG: The leader of Opposition Conrad Sangma has asked the State Government to initiate dialogue with the militant outfits — GNLA and the breakaway faction of the ANVC — to bring back lasting peace in Garo Hills.

“The Government must keep all its channels open so that the militant outfits of the state can be brought to the mainstream,” Sangma said on Wednesday.

The militant outfit GNLA has unleashed a reign of terror in Garo Hills besides many parts of the West Khasi Hills in the recent past.

In the midst of all, the breakaway faction of the ANVC has also resurfaced.

Stating that the State Government has not taken the issue of militancy seriously, he said, “No real action has been seen on the part of the government”.

It may be mentioned that both the militant outfits have been demanding for a separate Garoland.

The Opposition leader reiterated that the Government should have a holistic approach to root out militancy from the State by involving even church leaders besides others.
