SHILLONG: The construction of the much delayed Crow Borough hotel is finally making progress and scheduled to be completed next year though it may have issues as far as parking is concern.

The under construction hotel which has been delayed for over 33 years will have around 100 rooms but the hotel has a parking area that will accommodate mere 30 vehicles. This was revealed after the Tourism Minister along with officials of the State Government and police officials conducted an inspection of the project here on Wednesday.

It was informed that the parking inside the hotel may be an issue since the hotel was conceptualized way back in the 1980s when there were very less vehicles in the town. There were also discussions on how to sort out the issue as far as parking was concerned. There was also suggestion if the parking for the hotel can be constructed somewhere else.

The Minister was given a power point presentation where it was informed that the soft launching of the hotel would be done in June-July next year while the official inauguration of the hotel would be completed in August next year.

During the inspection, the Minister urged the firm constructing the project to ensure that the project is completed as per the timeline without any delays.

The hotel would also have as many as 13 presidential suits

It was also informed that most of the civil work of the project will be completed shortly.

Altogether, the plan as of now is to build 101 rooms. A mock room is also made inside the under construction hotel which was inspected by the Minister.

It may be mentioned that the hotel has partnered with France-based Accor Hotel Group and Novotel, the internationally acclaimed brand from the group, will make its debut in the state capital. The hotel will be able to provide jobs to 150 people.

The hotel was tipped to be Shillong’s  first  5 Star hotel , adding it was supposed to comprise eight economy rooms, 58 standard rooms, 30 deluxe rooms, a 100-seat coffee shop, 80-seat specialty (Indian / multi-cuisine) restaurant, 50-seat bar, 35-seat lounge, discotheque, banquet hall, convention facilities with state-of-the-art seating and projection facilities, smaller meeting and committee rooms, guest amenities like beauty parlour, health club with fully equipped gym, steam, sauna and massage facilities.
