NSIC to encourage NE bamboo entrepreneurs

GUWAHATI: National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Northeast has been appointed as marketing partner by Assam Bio Refinery Private Limited (ABRPL), where Numaligarh Refinery Ltd has 50 per cent stake in the new venture of bio ethanol project. 

Under this project, ABRPL is planning to source bamboo from various states of Northeast like Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya and set up chip processing units in strategic locations with an aim to create and develop new entrepreneurs of this region, an official statement issued here said on Thursday.

Chipping units will be paid for chipping of raw bamboo supplied by the bamboo growers according to their area of operations, wherein NSIC plays an important role by facilitating selected entrepreneurs to set up the necessary infrastructure for success of the mission/project. 

With the implementation of the project, two leading companies will be able to create maximum number of micro, small and medium entrepreneurs and also generate new employment opportunities in the Northeast. 

The expected engagement of direct, indirect, contractual and new entrepreneurs will be approximately 6350 by September 2021 while another 15,000 would engaged by 2026.  

NSIC is facilitating and serving different types of raw materials to micro small and medium enterprises by tying up with central and state level public sector undertakings and corporate houses for raw materials such as aluminum, iron and steel, bitumen, emulsion, cement, copper, paraffin wax, coal etc.

The corporation is trying to enable MSMEs to get continuous supply of raw materials at reasonable price. 

Besides it is supporting MSMEs in the region through schemes under credit support, marketing support and skill development training for unemployed youths through incubation training centre since the past few decades.
