SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Butchers Welfare Association (KJBWA) has sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) after a plot of land has been identified at Byrnihat, Ri-Bhoi which will not be used as a market but to stock cattle.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday after meeting KHADC CEM, Teinwell Dkhar, the president of the association, Generous Warlarpih, informed that the CEM will take a decision on the matter on Friday.
“We are seeking NOC for a temporary stock at Byrnihat. The NOC from the Shnong has been granted, so we need it from the KHADC also,” he said.
According to him, 80 per cent of cattle smuggling can be curbed under the new system.
The members are adamant about not buying any cattle from Khanapara market while Warlarpih contended that the market should be held once a week to curb cattle smuggling.
He maintained that the association is determined to curb cattle smuggling to Bangladesh.
He said cattle is in high demand in Bangladesh as it caters to the food processing industry that has investments by businessmen from Middle East.
