SHILLONG: The Meghalaya College Teachers Association has asserted that it would continue agitations as the demand pertaining to the reinstatement of St Edmund’s assistant professor Jeffreyson Wahlang is yet to be fulfilled.
Speaking to newspersons on Saturday, the general secretary of the association, Amanda Basaiawmoit said Wahlang was given the relieving letter arbitrarily.
She said the matter was also taken up with Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui but there was no assurance from the government.
Stating that the right to protest is a fundamental right, she added his service was terminated on flimsy ground.
Another member of the association, SK Pradhan said that nothing has been settled between the MCTA and the governing body of the college and they want the governing body to reinstate Wahlang without any condition.
Making it clear that they would continue with their agitation, David Marbaniang, another member of the association, said they are on the streets because the governing body of the college did not resolve the matter amicably and internally.
“We will continue the agitation without disrupting classes and we will look for other means besides intensifying it”, he said.
Amanda has also filed an FIR against Bro. Simon Coelho, Secretary of the Governing council, principal of St Edmund’s College, Sylvanus Lamare and Bursar of the College Bro. Julias Stelgus accusing them of misappropriation of government allotted funds.
