SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, inspected the Mawkynrew Block on Friday to check the progress of state and central schemes.
Some of the villages inspected by the deputy commissioner included Khapmaw, Mawjam, Mawlyngot, Iewrynghep, Umkhoi, Jatah, Wahmawlein, Umtong and Rasong.
At Rasong village, Nongbri inspected the ongoing work of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNRES).
She also visited Umtong village with an aim to improve the tourism potential of the village since farming is not feasible there while at Mawlyngot, she inspected the check dam which will provide water to the village and other villages.
War also inaugurated the road in Khapmaw village which will lead up to Mawjam village constructed under the MGNRES and Megha-LAMP schemes.
Speaking to a section of reporters, War said that a view point has been constructed at Rasong village to get people close to nature.
She said the East Khasi Hills has 11 blocks and she has started with the inspection of Mawryngkneng Block and will further visit some other blocks for inspection.
War informed that the Chief Minister has directed the Deputy Commissioners of all districts to visit the respective blocks to monitor the progress of different state and central schemes.
