Anogre management committee bags national award

 TURA: The Joint Management Committee, Anogre, West Garo Hills, was awarded the National Ground Water Augmentation Award 2010 under the category of NGO/ Gram Panchayat/urban local bodies for innovative practices for ground water augmentation through Rainwater Harvesting and Artificial Recharge to ground water by Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister of Water Resources at New Delhi recently in the presence of Vincent Pala and other dignitaries.

The President of Joint Management Committee, Ms. Lucky Sangma, received the award on behalf of the Committee. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a certificate.

The Joint Management Committee, Anogre was chosen for this award for their contribution towards development of sustainability of ground water resources.

The Committee was constituted in the year 2010 with 11 members. They are managing the Lake and its surroundings with the income generated from boating fees, parking fees, entry fees and from running the cafeteria. Presently they are employing three nos. of persons as care takers of the Lake.

They also strive to maintain the greenery of the lake by preserving the natural vegetation.

The rubber trees’ surrounding the lake also adds to the attraction.
