Voluntary blood donation low in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The National Health Mission Employees’ Association of Meghalaya (NEAM) on Saturday organised a voluntary blood donation camp at the regional blood bank unit, Directorate of Health Services (Research) Pastuer institute, Meghalaya.
The programme was attended by the members of the NEAM and others.
A total of 16 donors were also felicitated on the same day.
It may be mentioned that voluntary blood donation is very low in Meghalaya and the  need for  blood transfusion by various health facilities is significantly high.
Dr C Budnah, Sr Medical and Health officer, Regional Blood Bank, Pastuer Institue, lauded the efforts of the association for organising the camp and urged the public to donate blood and to save lives.
Dr R Momin and Dr B Lato, medical officers of the blood Services, NHM were also present.
Meanwhile, NEAM general secretary Johnson Nongbet highlighted the objectives of the blood donation camp and said that the association will organise similar  camps in Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills in the coming days.
