TURA: Various organisations from Williamnagar have demanded the resignation of a particular member of the Williamangar Main Market Merchants’ Association (WMMMA) alleging him to be the person responsible for the closure of shops at the market recently.

Organization including the GSU, FKJGP, AAYF, GSMC, WATA, ICFS, AYC and WGCSU on Monday met the district’s Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe and submitted a memorandum where they demanded the immediate resignation of General Secretary of the WMMMA, Lahatson Marak for allegedly calling for the closure.

“Marak took advantage of his position and called for the closure of shops due to which hundreds of vendors have been deprived off their day’s earnings. The closure of shops has also deprive taxi and tempo drivers off their earnings as well as violated the fundamental rights of the citizens under Article 19 and 21 of the Indian Constitution,” the organizations alleged.

Alleging that Marak is incapable of performing his duties as Secretary of the association, the organizations demanded that he resign from his post within 48 hours. The organizations also warned of taking further steps to put pressure on the district administration for his removal if the resignation does not materialize within the given time frame.
