SHILLONG: Health and Family Welfare Minister A L Hek on Monday inaugurated the state of the art 12-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Shillong Civil Hospital on Monday.
The ICU, which is an upgradation of the existing 6-bed ICU, is well equipped with the latest technology for patients needing specialised care and interventions. The ICU has been sanctioned from the State Plan under the SPA (Special Plan Assistance) at the cost of Rs 4.27 crore.
The minister informed that the ICU service is MHIS linked and thus free treatment is being provided to the beneficiaries. He expressed confidence that the ICU facilities will ensure that quality service is made available at very affordable minimal costs.
“Government is committed to provide the best health care to our citizens and in this endeavour, it has been receiving the unstinted cooperation of the doctors, nurses and health care personnel,” Hek said while adding that the missionary zeal and humane approach is key to good and satisfactory services and when acted upon with a touch of passion, coordination and cooperation of all stakeholders, smooth delivery of health care services is ensured.
The minister also commissioned the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) of the Hospital which will ensure safe and proper disposal of the liquid waste emanating from the different departments of the institution which will be of immense benefit to the public. The ETP will help in reusing the waste water thereby decreasing the demand of water consumption and treated liquid discharges can be safely released and have no ill effects on the environment.
Construction of the turnkey project was started in the latter part of 2017 at an estimated cost of Rs. 83 lakh. The first trial run was done on January 21 and final trial run on July 5.
