NEN convenes forum on public health issues

SHILLONG: The North East Network (NEN), in collaboration with Indian Institute of Public Health, Shillong, Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), Population Foundation of India and World Health Organisation kick started a conversation on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) with communities from the North East here on Tuesday.
Speakers at the consultation included eminent personalities like Dr Hilde De Graeve, Team leader, Health Systems, World Health Organisation, Dr Srinath Reddy, President, Population Foundation of India, Rupa Chinai, a Mumbai based journalist and writer and Dr Santosh Giri, Executive Director of Kolkata Rista among others. Steven Bareh, a representative from the Megha Health Insurance System (MHIS) spoke on the extensive work that they have carried out in Meghalaya to truly ensure universal health coverage to all in the state.

Meanwhile, the awareness programme and registration drive for Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) phase IV was held at Good Shepherd Hall, Jongksha, East Khasi Hills on Tuesday. Meghalaya Agriculture Minister who is also the local MLA, Banteidor Lyngdoh graced the occasion as the chief guest in the presence of the BDO, Mawkynrew C&RD L T Tariang, Additional District Medical & Health Officer, EKH, Dr. J B Ranee, State Programme Manager, MHIS, Sonata Dkhar and Rev. Fr. George Joseph, Principal, Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School.
