SHILLONG: Students of St Edmund’s College have asked permission from the principal to allow them to form an independent body in the form of a students’ council with immediate effect.
They said that the idea will bring students together not only for their grievances but also to promote their interests.
The letter said that once their idea is approved, they would address the students as well as the management as it has been stated under clause (g) of Sub section (1) of Sec 26 of the UGC Act 1953 and in suppression of the University Grants Commission (Grievance Redressal) Regulation 2012 that the college should have a students’ council.
Meanwhile, the principal of the college has pasted a notice stating that some students are missing classes and involving themselves in inappropriate activities.
“The Management would like to remind the students of the seriousness of their actions,” the notice said.
