SHILLONG: The central boby of the Mawphlang Labour Union has called on Executive Member (EM) in charge of Labour Teibor Pathaw to apprise him of the labour issues faced by locals.
Speaking to reporters, The union’s sports secretary, Khambor Kharshandi said that the union will impart training to other construction workers on the use of modern technology in construction works.
Besides the assurance to impart training, he stressed on improving work culture and urged the labourers to maintain punctuality and to work diligently.
The union urged the EM in charge of Labour to scrutinize the random issuing of license to workers from outside the state and to hike the license fee for outsiders which will in turn generate revenue for the council.
Kharshandi said that the companies working within the jurisdiction of the KHADC should give preference to local workers with exceptions being made only for work which the locals are unaware of.
He added that the KHADC should monitor companies and contractors so that they cannot bring outsiders and employ them which deprive the locals from getting employment.
On the other hand, the union informed that they had sought an appointment with Pathaw at 1 pm on Thursday.
Even while union members were addressing reporters at 3 pm, Pathaw was still unavailable.
Kharshandi stated that the EM should not disregard people and said, “We have come all the way from Mawphlang. There should be respect for common people.”
