SHILLONG: A group of young students from St Edmund’s School, Shillong who recently visited Australia on a study tour, are now keen to ensure that their learning of Australian culture is put into practice back here in the city.
It may be mentioned that, a group of 20 students from the St Edmund’s Secondary School recently concluded a successful ten-day educational tour of Australia where they learnt about Australian culture and exchanged ideas and thoughts about education system with the students from that country.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here about their educational voyage, Lakshya Bajaj, a student of Class X said that the cities of Australia are structured in such a way that one part of the city has only commercial areas while other part of the city consists of gardens which impressed him the most. “We met our fellow friends who had visited Shillong and we did a lot of activities besides tasting their education system and playing cricket with them,” he said. Another student Arel Jordan Kharkongor termed the trip as memorable while lauding the students of Australia saying they are much disciplined and very polite.
He also said that the Australian cities are very clean and it is a must for Shillong too to follow their footsteps as far as the idea of keeping the city neat and clean goes. On the other hand, the Principal of the School, Br S L Morris said that the idea behind the tour was to expand the horizon of the children as travelling is the best form of learning and the more places they visit they will learn from the culture of people.
It may be mentioned that the school has been conducting such educational tours for its students since 2017 and so far they have visited US, Europe and Australia.
