Kolkata: Former Indian Super League champions on Friday announced the signing of Spanish centre back Agus Garcia for the upcoming season.
The 34-year-old, who last played for Cyprus first tier club Nea Salamina, will be joining Anas Edathodika to bolster the team’s defence. “He is a versatile player and he has a lot to bring to the table. Looking forward to creating a defence strategy with his strengths in mind,” ATK’s head coach Antonio Lopez Habas said in a statement.
In his younger days, Garcia appeared in seven La Liga games representing Albacete Balompie before joining the Real Madrid Castilla for the 2004–05 season, where he returned for 2008–09. “I am eager to start playing for ATK. I will do my best to make sure they win this season,” he said.
In 2010, Garcia signed for three years with Cordoba CF. He continued competing in his country’s division two, representing AD Alcorcon, RCD Mallorca and Albacete. In 2016, he signed with Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer and next year he moved to the Danish 1st Division and joined Esbjerg fB on a two-year deal, where he also played as a striker. (PTI)
