Stray incidents across city

 SHILLONG: Stray incidents of arson and stone pelting were reported from certain parts of the city as well as other districts in the State, during the second day of the road blockade on Thursday.

Unknown miscreants tried to torch a Maruti car at Mawprem on Thursday night but the attempt failed as some youths of the locality chased the miscreants away.

East Khasi Hills SP AR Mawthoh informed that that there were reports of stone pelting in Riatsamthiah area.

In Mawkhar, unknown miscreants tried to block the road at around 10.30 pm and when the policy reached the scene, the miscreants even pelted stones at the police party. They were however chased away, police added.

Reports of stone pelting on moving vehicles also poured in from Umsning and Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district.

No other incident was reported from any other part of the city till the filing of this report.

Highway robbers nabbed

Police arrested four highway robbers from near the Mahavir Park in Jhalupara on Wednesday night.

The four robbers have been identified as Suraj Raja, Prem Thapa, Ganesh Khadka and Karan Thapa.

A senior police official informed that the four, taking advantage of the night road blockade, had pelted stones on the trucks which were plying on the highway before attempting to loot them, without the knowledge that police were keeping a close watch on their movement.

They were caught red-handed when they were trying to extort money from one of the truck drivers.

Meanwhile, police have informed that they have arrested three persons in connection with the torching of a haystack at Nongmynsong on Wednesday night.

The three have been identified as Banky Nongrum, Raymond Marbaniang and Andy Wahlang.
