St. Anthony’s occupies toppers’ list

 SHILLONG: The announcement of the HSSLC results by the Meghalaya Board of School Education on Thurday spread waves of joy among the major schools of the city. The schools which bagged the top positions in Science and Commerce streams are St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, St. Edmund’s Higher Secondary School and St. Margaret’s Higher Secondary School.

St. Anthony’s with its astonishing results created a flutter among the Shillongites. From the Science stream 9 positions and from the Commerce stream 5 positions were taken by them. The Principal of the school, Father Rajendran K. said, “I am joyful and satisfied in receiving such results. Hard work of students has paid off”. He attributes this success to the persevering teachers combined with the uphill struggle of the students.

The pass percentage of the school was 97% with 143 securing the 1st division and 9 securing 2nd division in the science stream. The pass percentage in the Commerce stream was 96%. The topper from science stream, Gaurav Ghosh said, ‘I was confident of my success. I wish to pursue BTech and then, Mtech”. Another topper Michael wishes to convey a message to his Khasi friends, “Work hard and do not compromise studies for anything”.

St. Edmund’s, on the other hand, made extraordinary achievement with their new set of faculty. The Principal, Dr. Sylvanus Lamare, said, “I am very happy. It is a very good feeling”. The school had 96% pass percentage in Commerce.

One of the rank holders, Ayaan Alam, said, “I worked hard and studied for several hours a day”. The topper from commerce, Harsh Chachan, said, “My motivation lies in my mother. She is the reason of my success”.

The principal, however, made an earnest request to the Khasi students to pull their socks up and get to work for producing such amazing results.

The Vice Principal, Sister Lily Changsam, of St. Margaret’s expressed her joy with the results. The topper from Commerce, Wanpherlin Shanpliang said, “My motivation are my parents, sisters and my teachers”.

With the external influences of social networks like Facebook etc. students are bound to get distracted. The determinant of success is striking a balance and this is exactly what the toppers have done.
