Agartala: The Tripura government has postponed issuing job offers against 5,100 vacant posts of under graduate teachers in the state run schools following obligation of Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET), which is mandatory under Right to Education Act (REA).

Officials said on Friday that the state government has held the posting of 863 science graduate teachers, who were issued job offer recently without TET.

School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has turned down the proposal to recruit teachers without conducting TET. The state education department had sought MHRD’s view on the issue and demanded relaxation on TET and recruitment of trained teachers with 50 per cent marks in February last following controversy over recruitment initiative of the state government without any test. The MHRD did not agree to the proposal of state government and suggested to hold TET for the eligible candidates for elementary level. The state government is in trouble for posting of 1000 science graduate teachers who had already been issued job without TET.

The tripura government has been opposing to set up school service commission as well as TET under REA citing the reason that the state was suffering from poor education infrastructure and it was difficult to get well educated and train candidates. (UNI)
