SHILLONG: MLA of Mylliem Ronnie Lyngdoh has rued the lack of interest among the youth to join politics while stating that such non-inclination may not be in favour to desirable changes in the society.

“It’s a pity that good, upright and educated young people are not inclined to join and thus there may not be the desired change”, Lyngdoh said. Addressing the one-day workshop on ‘Leadership for Catholic youth’ organized by the Catholic Religious of India (CRI) Shillong-Unit at Bianchi hall, Laitumkhrah here on Friday, Lyngdoh explained how politics enters every action and aspect of our society life.

“It affects and embraces everything we do, so meaningful and caring intervention in a proactive way can bring positive development in the lives of people and in society at large”, he said. Lyngdoh said over-exposure to the internet can harm the society as many negative things are also put up in the web which are easily accessible.

In this regard he talked of the great need to empower our young on helping to remove these harms.

The workshop was organized laying special emphasis on the importance of the youth’s involvement in the civic life and contribution thereof to the growth and development of the society.

Earlier, Dr Khyriem Nongkynrih of the Sociology department stressed on the need of knowing oneself well and be empowered in order to transform self and then be a catalyst in the change of society, church and other institutions.

On this day, prayers were offered, Scripture was read, hymn on power point was presented and a song sung by a local school on being light and salt.
