SHILLONG: Believe it or not, the State Youth policy has once again been delayed and the reason this time has been attributed to the continuous receipt of relevant suggestions which has forced the Sports and Youth Affairs department to extend its deadline for filing suggestions on the draft policy.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Bindo M Lanong, on Sunday claimed that the Youth Policy was finalized last week but continuous flow of suggestions has compelled them to prolong the date of forwarding the final draft of the policy to the State Cabinet.

“By next week, we will sit and deliberate on the final draft of the policy while incorporating the suggestions received from stakeholders, checking their relevance and the like,” Lanong told this scribe.

He further informed that the policy will be tabled before the Cabinet for approval within two weeks or less.

The State Youth policy was supposed to be tabled before the Cabinet within April, which now is unlikely to happen.

Lanong added that the policy stresses on empowerment, employment and engagement of youths in various sectors, even as he added that the policy has been formulated keeping in mind the interests of the fairer sex.

“We have incorporated everything in this policy from education to arts and culture,” Lanong said, while adding that enough attention has been given to every aspect of the youth.
