Rotaract Club holds meet

SHILLONG: Rotaract Club Pine City, Shillong collaborated with Women’s College, Shillong on an interactive session on ‘Stress Management and Coping Mechanisms,’ here.
Approximately 150 students attended the session.
Dr Ratnadip Roy, Principal of Women’s College, Parkordor Kharkongor, the Head of Department, Social Work, David Umdor, President of Rotary Club Shillong among others attended the programme.
Lorina Richmond, founder of Be Happy Counselling Services, Shillong was the resource person.
The speakers emphasised on stress and its management. Stress not only affects adults or the elderly but also youth and children who are burdened with exam stress and even social problems that arise within the family, among friends and their living environment.
The resource person briefed the gathering on how the definition of health is often overlooked from the perspective of “the mental aspect.” She said that to deal with stress there’s a need to find a balance in life. Citing statistics, she said India is the most depressed country in the world according to the WHO, followed by China and the USA.
In India an estimated 56 million people are suffering from depression and 38 million from anxiety disorders.
