New Delhi: A series of recent incidents of violence against people from the Northeast in different parts of the country has created a feeling of alienation among them, a Congress MP said in Lok Sabha on Monday.

Referring to the deaths of Richard Loitam in Bangalore and Dana Sangma in Gurgaon, Congress member Thokchom Meinya said during Zero Hour that the recent spate of such instances has “instilled a sense of alienation” among a large number of Northeastern people “in their own country”.

Maintaining that “one incident after another” had taken place in the recent past, he said the government and the Home Ministry should take urgent steps to check crime against the people of the North-East working or studying in various parts of the country, including Delhi, and ensure security to them.

Loitam’s body was found on April 18 under mysterious circumstances in Bangalore.
