SHILLONG: The Achik Students’ Welfare Association on Sunday informed that it is yet to receive a reply from Chief Minister Conrad Sangma concerning the establishment of more government run B.Ed colleges in Garo Hills.
The association informed that it had submitted a letter to the chief minister in 2018 apprising him about the issues faced by the students regarding lack of government run B.Ed colleges.
“Till date we are yet to receive any assurance from the government of the day to fulfill our demand and as a result we have reminded the chief minister recently this month,” the association said.
Presently there is only one government run B.ED college in Garo Hills which is in Rongkhon.
The college can accomodate a maximum of only 50 students.
“As per our knowledge there are huge number of aspirants but only very few get the opportunity to study in the institute. Consequently, our A’chik people are losing lots of opportunity in getting teaching jobs. We are extremely sad and we feel that it is urgent that more of such colleges are established in our region,” the association said.
