SHILLONG: The BJP Meghalaya Pradesh observed the first death anniversary of A.B Vajpayee at the State Party office, here on Friday.
Party workers observed one-minute-silence to pay respect to the departed soul.
Highlighting the contributions made by the former Prime Minister towards the nation and the northeastern state, the party remembered him for creating the DoNER Ministry to look after the Northeastern states for overall development in the region.
Vajpayee was conferred India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna by the then president of India, Pranab Mukherjee in 2015.
The Modi government has declared that Vajpayee’s birthday, December 25 would be marked as Good Governance Day.
Vajpayee was among the founder members of the Bharatiya Jana Singh, thereafter, the birth of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980 with Vajpayee as its first president.
He was a member of the Indian Parliament for over five decades; ten times elected to the Lok Sabha and twice to the Rajya Sabha.
He was the Minister of external Affairs in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Morarji Desai.
‘He will be always remembered as a man of ‘no religion’ and for his humanity’, party workers said.
