NCP moves Home Minister on ‘dubious voters’ issue

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has assured to address the issue of enrollment of ‘dubious’ voters in Meghalaya.

“If there are genuine concerns, Centre will address them accordingly,” Chidambaram told a delegation of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) which met him in New Delhi on Thursday.

The delegation, which was led by Union Minister of State for Rural Development Agatha Sangma, comprised of Rajya Sabha member Thomas A Sangma, the Leader of Opposition in Meghalaya Assembly Conrad K Sangma and James K Sangma, MLA.

The delegation apprised Chidambaram about the prevailing law and order situation in Meghalaya which had taken a toll on the lives of the common people, NCP Spokesperson James K Sangma said.

According to him, Chidambaram asserted that if the GNLA was ready to surrender, then Centre would cease operations against the banned outfit and also assured that the surrendered cadres would be treated properly.

The meeting also discussed the fate of those GNLA cadres who had surrendered before the State Government last year. The Union Minister of state for Rural Development Agatha K Sangma in the meeting also underlined the need for the Government to come out with some confidence building measures in order to instill a sense of security in the minds of people.
