Swachh Survekshan Grameen launched

NONGSTOIN: The District Water & Sanitation Mission West Khasi Hills district on Friday launched the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019, a national survey that reviews progress of its cleanliness drive in rural areas.
The deadline for the survey and to make the country open defecation free (ODF) is October 2, which is the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The day will also mark six years since the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan was launched.
This will be the second survey that the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, which now comes under the Jal Shakti ministry, will undertake. The last survey was done in 2018.
The Executive Engineer PHE Nongstoin Division who is also Member Secretary of DE&SM West Khasi Hills, D Shabong, said that the survey is a way to assess the cleanliness drive to take it to the next level.
He said that all districts will be ranked on the basis of data gleaned from several sources including self-reporting by districts, data from SBM-G  IMIS, district-level surveys of public places like schools, anganwadis, PHCs, haat bazaars, Panchayat and citizens’ perception of Swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the programme.
The mobile apps for citizens feedback for SSG was also installed by all the PHE staff under the guidance of J Marwein, Districts Coordinator, SSG WKH.
