All India Catholic Union holds centenary celebrations

SHILLONG: The All India Catholic Union as part of its centenary celebrations in Delhi, felicitated city based senior journalist Ospison Linus Marbaniang with national award in the field of media. He was the editor of Dongmusa and Mawphor and currently the consultant editor of Highland Post.
A statement issued by All India Catholic Union, Meghalaya unit said on Tuesday that before joining the media, Marbaniang worked as Public Relations Officer in NEHU. He was also Field Publicity Officer in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, after competing through the Union Public Service Commission, where he was also awarded with a citation of appreciation from the Ministry for his contribution in publicity work and creation of awareness in the Indo- Bangladesh villages of India.
The three-day centenary celebration from August 23 was attended by four hundred delegates from across the country.
Meghalaya was represented by more than 50 delegates from the Garo Hills Catholic Union, Catholic Association of Shillong and the Catholic Association of Jowai Diocese.
Vincent H Pala, MP joined the delegation and was also one the guests of honour at the centenary celebration. The delegation was led by Challang Artius Ch. Marak from Tura, Barnabas Nongbah from Shillong and Gilbert Sten from Jowai.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal graced the main function.
The highlight of the centenary celebrations was the national seminar in which retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Kurian Joseph, delivered the keynote address on ‘Constitution and Minority Rights in India: Problems, Experiences & Apprehensions’ on the inaugural day.
