GH to celebrate 150th birth anniv

SHILLONG: The A’chik Matgrik Kotok (AMK) will celebrate the 150th year of birth of the Garo Hills district by organising several programmes.
Chairman of AMK Bernard N Marak said that on September 24, the Garo Hills will observe its 150th birth anniversary. “We signed the peace pact on September 24, 2014 since Garo Hills became a full-fledged district with its own boundary via the ‘Garo Hills Act, 1869’ on September 24, 1869,” he said
The AMK has decided to organise various events which includes tribal carnival to showcase Garo culture. “We will celebrate this day with events on September 23 and 24,” Marak said.
The events include traditional games, traditional food and bitchi festival, Miss Garo Hills contest, carnival displaying the culture and tradition of various tribes living in Garo Hills, concert by best bands in Garo Hills, et al.
They have also planned to organise a seminar to spread awareness on the history of the Garo struggle.
