Sacred Heart Boys’ school celebrates silver jubilee
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday attended the silver jubilee celebration of Sacred Heart Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Mawlai, Shillong.
Addressing the students the chief minister advised them to be disciplined, have respect for their elders and work hard to succeed in life.
“The present world is full distractions that will deter you from achieving your goals. It’s important that you remain grounded in your values and not lose focus,” the chief minister said. He also told the gathering that out of the nine lakh eligible youth in the state only two lakh are fortunate to receive school or college education, adding that the government is making efforts to increase the number of schools and colleges with a special emphasis on higher and technical education.
The chief minister also said that 30 different residential schools funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs are being set up across all districts of the state to improve educational infrastructure.
Stating that over one lakh youth in the state enter the workforce every year, Sangma stressed on the need to create more employment opportunities and said that the government is working earnestly to address the concerns of limited job opportunities.
He urged all stakeholders to work together for the welfare and progress of the state.
The Silver Jubilarians from the teaching faculty were also felicitated by the chief minister.
