State seeks central assistance for tourism devp

SHILLONG: R Lyngdoh, Officer on Special Duty & ex-officio Joint Secretary, Planning Department, submitted a proposal to M K Jha, Under Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs (Grants Division), on Friday, with regard to the ‘development of tribal village at Polo Orchid, Shillong, East Khasi Hills’ at an estimated cost of 21.69 crore for availing financial assistance.
Meanwhile, South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has also written to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah with a proposal to develop Tribal Tourism at Polo Orchid, Shillong.
The MLA, in the letter, mentioned that the proposal is aimed at generating employment among the tribal folk through development of tourism which will in turn act as a major economic booster for the local populace.
