NONGPOH: Villages living in the ‘disputed’ Block-II area along the Meghalaya-Assam border have resolved to stay away from the ongoing drive by the Assam Government to take photographs of the residents for issue of EPIC, even as they have demanded setting up of a police outpost in the disputed area of Block-II.
The decision was taken in a meeting held at Sabuda attended by the Rangbah Shnong of 12 villages and other village elders on Friday morning, which was also attended by HSPDP supremo and Nongstoin legislator Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.
The villagers have demanded that the both the Meghalaya and the Assam government should clear the air over the dispute. They also insisted that they would stick with the EPIC issued by the Meghalaya Government as they want to adhere with the Election Commission directive of ‘one person one vote’.
The villagers also demanded setting up of a Meghalaya police outpost at any of the villages falling under Block-II as the police outpost located at Mawlasnai is located at a fair distance from the area.
Incidentally, the Assam Government had also proposed to hold at meeting at Sabuda on the same day. The meeting was however postponed at the eleventh hour.
