NE meet on textiles held

Aizawl: A decision for the formulation of a separate policy for the entire North East India regarding the textiles and garment manufacturing has been taken during the 4th Meeting of the Expert Consultative Committee (ECC) on Friday in Aizawl.

The meeting was hosted by the government of Mizoram and organised by the Indian Jute Industries Research Association (IJIRA), an organisation under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

Zothankuma who is the Director of Industries chaired the meeting. Representatives from the states of Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura attended the event.

Apart from representatives of North Eastern states, the Chairman, Power Loom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL), Director with other officials of IJIRA, senior Executive of Central Silk Board, NEDFi and Entrepreneurs from Mizoram also participated the programme.

Another decision taken during the meeting has been that on the basis of such separate policy, Detailed Project Report (DPR) needs to be evolved for funding by the Central Government to be sourced through IJIRA or PDEXCIL as the case may be. The meeting appreciated the offer of the Chairman, PDEXCIL to request Joint Secretary, Powerlooms, Ministry of Textiles to participate in the next meeting which may be hosted by Assam or Arunachal Pradesh as may be decided by IJIRA in consultation with the concerned states.
