Jio laments lack of tower space in city

SHILLONG: Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd has rued that very few individuals have come forward to offer their property for installing towers in the city which could have sorted out network issues in many places.
Some officials of the company Saturday held discussions with media persons and discussed on how to improve the overall network coverage in the city as well as in rural areas of the state.
During the interaction, the officials said people are still apprehensive of mobile towers and not many people are willing to come forward to offer their property for tower installations.
Informing that the data consumption is now 10 GB per user a month, officials informed Jio Fiber has been rolled out in many parts of the city like Lachumiere, Police Bazar and Motinagar.
According to officials, around 3,300 km of optical fibre has already been laid in the North East while 5,700 km more will be laid in the entire region.
It was also informed that there are three Jio centres in Meghalaya including Shillong, Jowai and Tura under which, there are 16 Jio points with eight under Shillong, three in Jowai and five in Tura.
It may be mentioned that there around 3.5 lakh Jio customers in Khasi Hills followed by 2.5 lakh in Garo Hills and 1.5 lakh in Jaintia Hills.
