TURA: The recent communal flare-up in and around the plain belt area in Rajabala was instigated by unscrupulous groups and individuals with vested interest who spread messages of sedition through mobile phone text messages, informed the United Christian Peace Forum (UCPF), Tura.
A delegation of the UCPF, comprising of Rev Frithing D Sangma, Fr Sunny Joseph Mavellil and Rev Mahseng A Momin, on Thursday last held threadbare discussion with West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi and Assam Civil SDO P Saikia at ground zero on the recent flare up of communal violence in Rajabala and surrounding areas. After thorough examination of reports and findings collected from all the police stations in the affected region, the UCPF could establish that people with vested interests were attempting to disturb the peace of the region by spreading unsubstantiated rumours through text messages from mobile phones.
Appreciating the efforts made by the Administration to restore normalcy in the region the UCPF informed that it had full confidence in the work of the officials and the police in bringing back peace and security to the region.
The UCPF has urged the people of Garo Hills not to believe in rumours and spread the same without confirming it.
