SHILLONG: The State Government is now contemplating to improve and beautify the Laitumkhrah junction on the lines of Khyndai Lad beautification project to give it the required charm and attraction, besides easing the congestion in the area.
Urban Affairs Minister and Laitumkhrah legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh informed The Shillong Times that the project would take off before the announcement of polls scheduled to take place next year.
The preliminary work for the project has already begun with the MeECL working to streamline all the electrical wires in the area.
The survey has already been done for the junction improvement project and all the documentations regarding land acquisition and estimates have been submitted at the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
“The project will take off under the PPP mode and therefore we are taking extra time to examine the documents,” she added.
The State Government had to call for Request for Proposal (RFP) three times but only one group had applied on all the three occasions.
Ampareen also informed that the PWD was also asked to prepare the estimates for the project in November last year.
The State Government had, earlier, conceived a plan to beautify the Motphran junction and the PWD had been asked to follow up on the matter.
The PWD, however, reported that the memorial at Motphran junction has sentimental attachment for the people, after which the Government decided to take up the matter with the Syiem of Hima Mylliem.
Apart from Motphran and Laitumkhrah, a plan to beautify and decongest the Malki junction is also in the pipeline.
