SHILLONG: The West Jaintia Hills District unit and the Jowai Block unit of the NPP Women’s Wing on Monday met the local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla to apprise him of the issues of the constituency.
The women’s wing members reminded the MLA that completion of the Ïawmusiang Market Complex is one of the promises made by the NPP in its election campaign and therefore, they urged for quick completion of the project.
They also said that Umngot Drinking Water Project has been pending for many years and demanded that the project was completed before winter arrived so that the people of Jowai constituency benefit from the project. On the issue of Work-charge employees, the group urged the MLA to intervene by asking the state government to consider those who have already served for five years or more and others who have crossed the age-limit to apply for government jobs, that they may be retained.
The group also appealed to the MLA to expedite the opening of the Maternity Hospital at Jowai which will also open job opportunities for the local people of the constituency.
They said that the NGT ban, which restricts construction within 500 metres of the Myntdu River, has affected small landholders who own only a small plot of land and therefore are unable to build their homes because their lands fall within the 500 metre restricted area.
The women’s wing units felt that there is a need to relax the maximum limit for the benefit of small landholders.
The women wing also apprised the MLA about the youth of the district, who need sensitisation on the drug menace in order to prevent them from falling into the habit of abusing drugs and prevent HIV/AIDS from spreading among them.
