SHILLONG: The Land Committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has decided to ask the state government to return the ‘Allotment, Occupation or Use or Setting Apart of Land Bill, 2014’ for scrutiny.
Speaking to reporters, chairman of Land Committee, Titos Chyne, said the Bill has not received the Governor’s assent. “The Committee has decided to write to the state government to return the Bill and will work on it again. The task has been entrusted to members of the committee, R.S Wanniang and A Shangpliang, retired Secretary of KHADC,” he said. He said that after the Bill is examined, they will introduce it in the district council session. He said if the Bill becomes law, the KHADC will be able to register land, since currently, the council is only keeping a record of the land.
