Village headman shot dead

Kohima: Prohibitory orders were promulgated in Intanki National Park under Peren district of Nagaland on Friday following the killing of village council chairman and headman of Inavi village inside the Park on Thursday. ”Prohibitory orders have been promulgated in the Intanki National Park area in the wake of yesterday’s killings,” Deputy Commissioner of Peren Khrienuo Metha informed. The miscreants also beat up villagers and set about 50 houses on fire and destroyed several graneries. Metha said one Magistrate and interpreter were sent to the village to assess the situation while the Deputy Commissioner (DC) would visit the village later. (UNI)

Foreigner held in Manipur

Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles(AR) apprehended one Bangladeshi national without valid documents at Chamol in Chandel district on Friday. AR sources said a Bangladeshi national was caught on his way to Imphal from Moreh in a car. On interrogation the accused revealed that he was a resident of Dineshpuri in Dhaka (Bangladesh). Indian and Bangladeshi currencies were recovered from his possession. (UNI)

NSCN-IM to track, punish culprits

Kohima: The NSCN-IM assured that it would spare no effort to track down the main culprit behind assassination bid on M Imtila and award befitting punishment. In a statement issued by the NSCN-IM on Thursday night in regard to the memorandum submitted by the action committee of the Ao Senden against the assassination bid on the life of M Imtila it said the consternation of the Ao people was quite understandable. Nagaland river to be diverted

Kohima: In a bid to check land erosion in Dimapur, The Irrigation and Flood Control Department of the government contemplated diverting the course of River Chathe flowing in and around the town. Official sources said here on Friday the Department was likely to take immediate measures to stop further erosion of land along the banks of the Chathe. The Department of Irrigation and Flood Control proposed a contingent plan that included diversion of the river at its mouth so as to turn the flow of water down stream thereby protecting the Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR).
