JOWAI: The Meghalaya Cement Limited popularly known as Topcem Cement will go plastic free within its premises. The order will come into effect from October 2 and the staff are advised to follow it strictly.
In an office order issued by the cement plant, president RK Pareek stated that they welcome the decision by the Central Government to impose ban on the use of plastic bags. He also insisted for other alternatives to plastic.
“ A ban on polythene bags is the need of the hour and at this point it becomes essential to take effective measures and ensure that people follow it seriously,” he added.
Pareek said polythene is non-biodegradable which not only pollutes the environment but is harmful to health.
