SHILLONG: The government is examining the demand to regularise the existing posts of SSA teachers as per the norms of SSA-RTE 2009 and streamline the existing categories of schools.
Aristotle C Rymbai, president of the Meghalaya SSA School Association, said in a statement on Thursday the SEMAM-SSA has replied to a representation submitted by the association to the state government demanding “merging/shifting of all existing posts (12541) of Elementary Education Teachers working under budget head of Samagra Shiksha, erstwhile Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, to State Education Department on regular basis”.
“A Ch Marak, state project director, SEMAM-SSA in a letter sent to the special officer in the Education Department on September 11, with a copy forwarded to the association said the matter is under examination at the government level,” Rymbai said.
State budget teachers are appointed by the Directorate of School Education and Literacy under the Education Department and SSA teachers are appointed by school management committees with prior approval of the State Project Director Office on contractual basis for whom different service arrangement have been spelt out, Rymbai added.
Transport dept issues orders for vehicle owners

SHILLONG: The office of the Commissioner of Transport, Meghalaya in a press statement informed that parking along National Highways in the state is strictly prohibited for all types of vehicles except on by-lanes and parking areas identified by National Highway Authority of India.
It also informed that vehicle owners should ensure that no vehicles ply without number plate and that they are affixed with the High Security Registration Plate as mandated in Rule 50 & 51 of the Motor Vehicle Rule, 198. Anyone found not complying to the order will be penalised as per Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
In view of complaints received from the public regarding refusal of ferrying passengers by local taxis as well as over-charging, the office has directed the drivers to carry passengers within the permitted seating capacity and also not to overcharge beyond the rates fixed by the government. The offender’s permit and driving license will be suspended.
The transport department further informed that all goods carriage vehicles (LMV) owners / drivers within the state not to carry beyond the permissible load capacity as registered with the office of the District Transport Officer.
