Poshan rally at Resubelpara, health mela at Baghmara

TURA: Deputy Commissioner, S C Sadhu flagged off the Poshan rally in Resubelpara on Thursday. The rally commenced from the DC’s premises via Dekachang market and culminated at the Mini Stadium in Resubelpara.
Addressing the assembly of students, ASHA workers, Anganwadis and various government officials Sadhu informed that the month of September is being observed as the month of Nutrition in the whole of the country with the objective to improve the nutritional status of children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating mothers. Many activities are also being organized through the converging departments across the district to create maximum awareness on the importance of health and nutrition, he added.
Meanwhile in Baghmara, Poshan Mela was also organized at Bolsal Ading locality by the Child Development Project Officer under Baghmara Block where SHG members, Anganwadi workers and convergent departments attended and set up stalls to showcase their activities and products.
DRDA Project Director, M T Sangma who was the Chief Guest on the occasion informed that the programme is being organized in different levels as to create awareness on the importance and the values of nutrition among the expectant mothers, children and women in general.
During the program, awareness on Electors Verification Programme was also held where voters are given opportunity to verify their electoral rolls and any other changes required. The Verification programme will continue in the district till October 15.
Meanwhile, a day-long Health Mela with a view to reach out to the people in remote areas was organized by the District Health Society at Bainapara M E Deficit School under Betasing C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills on Thursday.
During the Mela, hundreds of patients and beneficiaries from Bainapara and nearby villages were given the opportunity to avail free check up for various ailments and also awareness on mental health, AYUSH, PMMVY, MHIS and adolescent health among others. A lab for conducting tests and a pharmacy for free distribution of medicines were also put up at the mela. As part of the ongoing Poshan Maah a separate platform was also set up for Poshan activities.
Former GHADC MDC Larson Sangma, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion encouraged the crowd gathered at the meeting to take opportunity of such events to interact with the doctors if there are any health issues as many people are hesitant to go to hospitals due to financial constraints.
He stated that the government has provided ASHAs and Anganwadi workers to help the medical team, so they should make full use of their availability.

As part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah celebration, Gambegre ICDS Project organised a poshan rally, street play on anemia and anemia camp at Darengre Junction on Thursday.
The function was attended by Hemaritha Ch. Sangma, District Programme Officer (ICDS Cell), Tura among others.
