Lapang, Jamir meet Mukul

 SHILLONG: D. D. Lapang, chairman and S. C. Jamir, Adviser of the NECCC met Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma on Tuesday to discuss various important issues pertaining to the welfare of the Northeastern region.

Some of the issues discussed during the meeting include the interstate boundary dispute between Assam and other neighbouring States. The meeting discussed the ways and means to bring in an amicable solution to the inter-State boundary problem. The meeting also addressed the growing insurgency in the North East and discussed the need to find out ways and means to tackle it.

The death of two northeast students, Dana Sangma and Richard Loitam that sent shock waves across the region and touched the psyche of the northeastern students studying in other parts of the country was also talked about and the need to ensure security to the students studying across the country was discussed.

The need to strengthen the Cabinet of Ministers by increasing the number of seats from 12 was also pointed out. Stressing on the improvement of border haats along the international border, to improve the economic condition and to open new opportunities for expansion of bilateral trade was also discussed.

Dr. Sangma extended his support and co-operation to the delegation while adding that it is necessary to send a team to Delhi to find out ways to strengthen the NECCC which is an important forum.
