Leadership training meet in city
SHILLONG: The addiction to social media and concerns over deteriorating environment were discussed in a leadership training programme held at Sacred Heart Theological College, (SHTC) Mawlai on Sunday .
The annual gathering organised by Leadership Training Service (LTS) saw 300 students from 10 schools of Shillong region taking part. The theme of the event was, ‘Rediscovering the Values of Nature.’
The programme started with the welcome address by Bro. Pradeep Tudu, the LTS Coordinator of Shillong region.
Allantry F. Dkhar, Political Adviser to the Chief Minister, was the chief guest. Besides, principals, animators and other dignitaries from various schools were also present on the occasion.
In his address to the participants Dkhar said, “You are lucky because you are guided in the right spirit to be a leader. Leadership is not about achieving things but giving.” He further added, “As a leader you can bring about change and especially the horrible things that is happening towards our mother earth.”
In the first part of the programme, the students had two animation sessions, one conducted by Bro. Khalkho and the other by W.R. Kharkrang, Member Secretary, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board.
Bro. Khalkho dealt with, ‘Self- Formation in Media Culture’ and Kharkrang, ‘Rediscovering the Values of Nature.’
Bro. Khalkho specifically stressed on the ‘selfie and PUBG culture’ which is leading many young people to depression.
Kharkrang said, “The reason we don’t take care of the environment is we think it’s no man’s property.” He further added, “The environment we develop is where we are, so it depends on us.”
Various schools displayed the cultural mosaic of North East. Holy Child School, Nongthymmai performed Bihu dance, St. Mary’s School, Laitumkhrah Wangala dance and St. Francis School, Smit Khasi dance.
Nicole Pariat, the animator of Holy Child School said, “The programme enabled the students to be aware about the social media and the environment.”
Eronica R. Rymbai, a participant from St. Marys said,” The inputs that we got about social media and environment were enriching and we will definitely try to execute in our real life.”
The programme concluded with the felicitation of Bro. Milan Basak, the outgoing LTS member.
