Tarun Gogoi’s son joins Congress to serve Assam

Guwahati: After observing his father, chief minister Tarun Gogoi, from the sideline for over a year now, Gaurav Gogoi has decided to follow to the footsteps of the senior Gogoi into the thick of Congress politics in Assam.

The 29-year-old social worker Gaurav Gogoi has decided to join the ranks of Congress party to take a plunge in active politics. His decision has created ripples within the party especially when a whiff of opposition to his father’s gaining ground within Congress legislature party with at least one influential minister announcing that he has been nurturing a dream to become the chief minister of Assam.

Gaurav Gogoi who has has been involved in social work, was inducted into the active politics during the last Assembly election in Assam held in 2011. He was assigned to take care of electioneering in Titabor LAC which is represented by his father. He also hit the campaign trail in many other legislative assembly constituencies along with other senior Congress leaders during the polls.

After testing the water, the junior Gogoi has now announced his decision to join Congress party to carry forward development process initiated by his father. “I have answered the call of my conscience. This is the right time to join politics. I have not joined politics as the son of Tarun Gogoi but as the son of Assam” Gaurav said. He has sought party membership from Jorhat district Congress committee. The eastern Assam’s old city Jorhat is the home town of Gogoi family.
