3 arrested for killing of BJP leader in Jammu
Srinagar: Three persons involved in the killing of a BJP leader in Kishtwar and weapon snatching in Jammu and Kashmir have been arrested. “In pursuance to a focused effort carried out by Kishtwar police, the CRPF, Army and NIA team, to solve Kishtwar killings and weapon snatching, we have been able to arrest three persons involved in these cases,” the police said. The police statement said that the conspiracy was initially hatched in 2016-2017 between Mohammad Amin alias Jahangir Saroori, Osama Haroon, Nissar Ahmed Sheikh and others to revive militancy in the Chenab valley under the banner of Hizbul Mujahideen. Terrorist commander Saroori, Haroon, Zahid and Sheikh were involved in the killing of BJP leader Anil Parihar in Kishtwar in October 2018. (IANS)
SC gets four new judges
New Delhi: Four new judges on Monday took oath as the Supreme Court Judges, increasing the total strength from 31 to 34 as sanctioned under the amended law. The four new judges who sworn in are Chief Justice Krishna Murari of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court S Ravindra Bhat, Chief Justice V Ramasubramanian of Himachal Pradesh, and Kerala High Court Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy. Recently, the Parliament had increased the number of judges in the top court from 31, including the Chief Justice of India to 34, highest ever. The Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill was passed by the Parliament and President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent soon, thereafter, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended judges names to the government on August 28. The Centre on September 18 cleared the appointments on Collegium’s recommendation. (ANI)
Man lynched in Jharkhand
Ranchi: A man was beaten to death and two others injured by irate villagers in Jharkhand’s Khunti district for killing a protected animal, police said on Monday. The deceased was identified as Kalantus Barla of Gopalpur village. The two injured victims identified as Philip Horro and Phagu Kachap have been admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. More than five villagers have been detained in connection with the case, the police said. According to the police, the three men were spotted allegedly carving out meat from the protected animal. Villagers who had reached the spot caught the three and started thrashing them. Police also reached the spot and rescued the three men, after which they were admitted to a local hospital for treatment. Later, one of them succumbed to injuries on Sunday night. In the last 15 days more than 10 people have been beaten up by mobs in different districts of the state on charges of child lifting, the police added. (IANS)
One held for cow slaughter
Rampur: The city police have arrested a man involved in multiple cases of cow slaughter here in Uttar Pradesh after a shootout. The accused identified as Imran alias Jhamman, was involved in more than half a dozen criminal cases with the majority being those of cow slaughter, the police said on Monday. Assistant Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh said, “During routine checking on the road connecting Kesarpur and Nankar on Sunday, two bike-borne men suddenly fled after seeing the police. The police then chased them and they started firing at us. In our retaliatory firing, Imran was nabbed but his accomplice managed to escape. One .12 bore pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the accused.” Imran, who had sustained injuries during the shootout, was referred to a hospital in Meerut for treatment. (IANS)
3 burnt to death in accident
Ranchi: Three people were burnt to death on Monday when a coal-laden truck fell on a car that caught fire immediately after the accident in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district, police said. According to the police, the accident took place at the Beni river bridge. Six people were travelling in the Alto car from Giridih district to Hazaribagh. In a move to overtake, the coal-laden truck fell on the Alto. The car caught fire immediately. The deceased were identified as Mohhamd Jalauddin, Mohhmad Taufik and truck driver Kailash Paswan. 5 create ruckus in hospital, held
Meerut: At least five persons were booked after they showed up at a private hospital here to celebrate their friend’s birthday who was admitted following a surgery. According to reports, Anuj Yadav and Monu, along with three other friends, visited the hospital on Sunday night to celebrate the their friend, Aabad’s birthday. The youths were initially denied entry by the security guards. The ‘friends’, all in their 20s, began creating a ruckus and started misbehaving with the hospital staff after being prevented from entering the hospital premises. However, two hours later, Anuj and Monu returned, this time armed with weapons. They overpowered the security personnel and then opened fire. The incident was reportedly captured in CCTV cameras installed at the hospital and an FIR has been lodged against them. Meerut SP (Rural) Avinash Pandey said: “These youngsters started creating a ruckus giving the excuse of celebrating a patient’s birthday. When the hospital staff objected, they opened fire at a hospital staff. Alhough no one was injured, the glass panes in the hospital were shattered.” A case has been registered under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at Ganganagar police station. Minor sexually assaulted by 30
Malappuram (Kerala): After three persons were arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl, police on Monday revealed that she was sexually abused by around 30 different people over a span of two years. “The girl has given a statement against around 30 persons. They had sexually abused her for the last two years. However, she was not able to identify the persons,” a police official said. Three men, including the father of the girl, were arrested on Sunday in connection with the case. “The girl’s father has been arrested on charges of abetment to the crime and the two other accused identified as Asraf and Shyju have been charged with sexually abusing the child,” police had said. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. According to the police, the incident came to light while the child was being counselled in school. The child has been shifted to a child welfare shelter home. (ANI)
