JOWAI: With the Supreme Court ban on the use of tinted glass and sun control films on vehicles, the Jaintia hills Traffic Police along with Enforcement personnel of the Transport Department on Wednesday swung into action removing dark glasses from as many as 403 vehicles including both government and private vehicles. Even VIP vehicles were not spared.

Police officials were seen removing dark glass from their own personnel vehicles at the Jowai Police Station.

Motorists were also seen queuing near the automobile spare parts shops in the town to remove sun control films from their vehicles.

Officer in charge Traffic Branch, M Marboh informed that the exercise would continue in the entire district.

Meanwhile, similar exercises were also conducted at Khliehriat and Ladrymbai. Police informed that dark glasses had been removed from as many as 60 vehicles in Khliehriat and from more than 30 vehicles in Amlarem Sub-Division.

However, many vehicle owners complained that they were confused with the Supreme Court order.

The apex court order states that black films on the front and rear windscreen that block light by more than 30 per cent and the tint on the side window panes if more than 50 per cent are punishable.
