SHILLONG: The Department of Tourism and Travel Management MLCU recently celebrated World Tourism Day by reaching out to students from different schools.
With the year’s theme being ‘Tourism and Jobs: Better Future For All’, the students of the department held interactive sessions with the students of St. Peter’s School and Brookside Adventist Higher Secondary School with an aim to help them examine the  important role of tourism in the economy and its relation to employment.
The tourism industry has an incredibly wide scope of generating employment in the form of several kinds of jobs and skill management roles.
The sessions aimed to generate awareness on the significance of tourism and its social, economical and cultural worth. The interactions also helped the students gain valuable insight on various professional and practical skills required by the tourism industry.
Other issues emphasised on during the sessions included sustainable tourism management and the conservation of natural and heritage resources.
The message of tourism as a driver of job growth and economic prosperity was also emphasised throughout the discussions.
